My sister switched to Ubuntu recently from Win ME. A wise choice even though i sort of made her switch :-) All hardware installed fine except her scanner, an Umax Astra 2000P. According to the Sane website this parallel scanner is supported, but somehow i'm not able to get it working. Luckily i had a spare scanner at home. This Acer 3300U is much faster (usb) and installing it was a breeze. Just put the right firmware somewhere in the filesystem and edit /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf with the right firmware location. I guess some day Ubuntu will have a GUI for this?
